SHOUT, Dan Shout’s jazz-fusion band, is launching their new album, Serenading Ghosts, at Studio 7 this week… Things are about to get exclusive! Weren’t they already, you ask? Well yes. But in our minds there is nothing more exclusive than an exclusive album launch in an exclusive venue with an exclusive guest list.

The Cape Town-based saxophonist, has teamed up with Gorm Helfjord on guitar, Romy Brauteseth on double bass and Jonno Sweetman on drums to bring us jazz-fusion at its finest. Dan Shout, a born and bred Capetonian, has serenaded listeners both locally and internationally for some time now and has built up a rather impressive resume over the years. Locally, he has performed with Cape Town Jazz Orchestra, Spier Summer Orchestra, UCT Big Band and many more. In a wonderful display of his diversity, Dan has performed and recorded with some of SA’s top house music names – Dino Moran, Shaun Duvet, DJ Fresh, Roger Goode and Dean Fuel. He went on to launch his first jazz-fusion album in 2010.

Now it is time for another. Serenading Ghosts. We found the story behind the making of this album rather fascinating (in fairness, anyone would). In April this year, Dan took himself off to Namibia in search of inspiration. While traveling through the Namib desert, doing workshops at schools and performing sold-out shows for the folk of Oranjemund, one night in particular was spent exploring Bogenfels Ghost Town in

Kolmanskop, 10km’s outside of Luderitz. Dan and his companions locked themselves in the deserted town on a starry night from 11pm until dawn the next day tracking the album in live takes. Pretty phenomenal stuff. Don’t know about you but you but we are super excited to hear what came of a night spent in the ghost town.
