Hot Water Review by Studio 7

Posted on: May 21st, 2012 by admin No Comments

Wow. Pretty much the only world can that be used to accurately describe what went down here on Saturday night. Hot Water quite literally blew everyone out of the proverbial water.

For those of you who don’t know, or weren’t here (shame), Hot Water have a distinct South African sound and feel and having been described as able to create an “African celebration” in the past, that’s exactly what they did. The Studio 7 lounge (and kitchen and dining room and corridor) was transformed into a seemingly outdoor African fiesta – people danced, people clapped, people sang. Even Patrick spontaneously hit the mic and performed some of his signature beat boxing, a special treat for those who haven’t heard him in action.

Not only was Hot Water’s performance mind-blowing but having them in our space, interacting with the guests and fans via Twitter (through a live Q&A feed) was a huge honour. Learning about the band members, where they’ve come from and the direction the band is taking was invigorating. We highly recommend keeping an eye on them in the future – they are going places. (Including the 2012 Olympics – props!)

If you were there the pics from the evening will be posted on our Facebook page. We’ll also have the session available for limited download so keep an eye on our site and our Twitter feed (@Studio7_SA). Thank you to everyone that attended and of course to Bushmills for making it all possible.

Till next time…

So, we are super excited to have a proudly, and distinctly, South Africa band warm our Saturday evening this week thanks to Bushmills Irish Whiskey of course. Hot Water is a musical phenomenon (in our opinion) that personifies South African patriotism and articulates cultural diversity to perfection. The personalities of the band members shine through while they perform with no inhibitions, only passion. And not only do their instruments made from recycled Castrol cans add African flavour, but theirdelicious, versatile sounds and lyrical content make for a spontaneous South African celebration. Hot Water launched their first album in 2006 at Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts and have since been named Best Band in SA by Men’s Health Magazine, displayed their South African heritage by taking on an upliftment initiative in Cape Town, and released two more albums.

Honestly, we don’t think we have ever felt more proud to be a South African than when I first saw the music video for Laduma Follow your Star (aside, perhaps, from the Waka Waka).

It quite literally gave me goose bumps while simultaneously “laughing out loud” – Nik Rabinowitz’s facial expressions alone have that effect on most people. No matter your personal preferences, or whether you are South African or not, you will absolutely love them and leave feeling proud to be in this magical country.

For more information on the band and or to listen to some of their music, visit our Facebook page. Otherwise contact us directly for any more information or book your seats HERE ->(CLICK HERE TO BOOK)
